Artist Statement
Over the past decade I have been creating a series of paintings called “Ornaglyphs”. These surreal, gouache paintings feature a crazy cast of bird-like characters and a hieroglyphic non-language that is open to interpretation. The paintings started off as comic panels and have now morphed into clustered, layered abstract paintings. I pull inspiration from pretty much anything I encounter but mainly from observations from long walks in swampy areas or from hanging out in my backyard studying plantlife up close. Each painting is a spontaneous experiment with color and shapes colliding. When people experience my work I want them to get lost and find new things. I love when people tell me what they see.
